This is one of Jim’s crowning achievements: a highly-detailed CG model of the starship Enterprise. The model has been an ongoing project, with the first version completed in 1999 and the second version nearly finished, more than quadrupling the amount of surface detail. The model was built and rendered in Strata Studio Pro.

Tutorial: Building the Enterprise

This tutorial covered the techniques used to create the 1999 version of the model. Topics covered include modeling, texture mapping, lighting, and compositing. The tutorial concludes with a description of the methods used in creating the fabulous warp drive effect. The tutorial will also be updated when the new version is complete.
